FARMINGTON – Nordica Auditorium, on the second floor of the University of Maine at Farmington’s Merrill Hall, will be the setting Friday, March 22, for the 2002 Nordica Celebration of the Arts.

The annual celebration was inspired by opera diva Lillian Nordica who was born in Farmington in 1857, became a sensation in Europe and for 35 years had a brilliant operatic career. In 1911, a year before her death, she returned to her hometown and gave a concert in the auditorium that later was named for her.

The theme of this year’s Nordica Celebration, which has become a regular feature of UMF’s observance of Women’s History Month, is “The Other Shore.”
