EASTBROOK – New addresses, new animal control equipment and repaved roads are among the proposals residents will vote on at the town’s annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting, which will be at the town office on Route 200, will be preceded by a 6 p.m. public supper.
According to Eastbrook Administrative Assistant Kathy Molatch, voters will be asked to raise 50 percent more for town roads in 2002 than was spent last year. Town officials are recommending $25,000 be raised in taxes and $50,000 taken from surplus for town roads, even though only $50,309 was spent on town roads last year, she said.
Molatch said the town is negotiating with the state about making improvements to Route 200. A one-mile section of the road will be repaired this year, she said. “We would like them to rebuild the road,” Molatch said.
Also proposed is raising $500 for animal control equipment such as a snare-pole and a crate, and $5,000 for assigning new Emergency 911 addresses for each property, Molatch said. Both items are new on Eastbrook’s town meeting warrant this year, she said.
Overall, voters will consider a proposed 2002 municipal budget of roughly $215,000, according to the town meeting warrant. The town’s school budget will be set at a separate meeting in June, Molatch said.
The town’s use of surplus money is expected to increase from $39,500 in 2001 to $103,000 this year, Molatch said. She said town officials plan on using more surplus money to help lessen the effects of an anticipated higher school budget on property taxes.
“We’re going to be looking at an increase” in school expenses, Molatch said. As is done every year, town officials will be nominated and elected at the annual town meeting, according to Molatch.
Besides the three selectmen seats, one school board seat and one planning board seat will be up for election Monday night, she said.
