OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Fire investigators have determined a fire that destroyed three downtown businesses was intentionally set and are turning to the public for help in solving the case.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is asking anyone with photos or video footage of the March 5 fire to contact investigators.
Many witnesses already have come forward, Sgt. Jennifer Mills said, and such material could help investigators figure out who is responsible.
Investigators have questioned dozens of people, including owners of the destroyed businesses and property.
Mills said the investigation by her office, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department has not turned up any particular suspects.
“Anybody and everybody is a suspect at this point,” Mills said.
The fire destroyed a gift store, a T-shirt shop, a tavern and a vacant shop. All the businesses were closed for the season and power to the buildings was turned off when the fire started.
