The snowmobile trail conditions are gathered from the Maine Snowmobile Association’s Web site. The complete report is available at mesnow.com
Overview
If you’re looking to ride, see reports below, check the snow depth map and be sure to check locally for information. Heads up for hard-packed, icy conditions when temps warrant, thin spots, spring conditions, brooks, streams open, etc.
Aroostook County
Benedicta: The Benedicta Snowgang trail system is closed for the season.
The Snowgang would like to thank the countless number of individuals involved in the club who spent countless donated hours to make our trail system one of the very best anywhere.
Caribou report
There are still some good sledding days left – you just need to pick your spots. From Millinocket to south Caribou the cover is slim with lots of ice. For those wishing to sled in earnest they will find ITS 81 from Van Buren north passable with limited grooming. ITS 83 from Washburn north passable with some problems in the field in the central zone, but grooming in most areas. ITS 85 has seen some grooming to the Carter Brook area and a few more inches of snow will see groomers out from Ashland north.
ITS 92 has been groomed this week. ITS 90 has been groomed in its entirety this week. ITS 88 is spotty but sleds can pass, but will encounter ice and bare ground in spots.
The Squa Pan system is holding and is passable. Rte. 83A from US Rte. 1 in Caribou to the Aroostook River is closed. Rte. 89 at the Madawaska River in Connor is closed.
Sledders are advised that no water bodies are totally safe and extreme caution should be used.
Katahdin region
Millinocket, Medway, East Millinocket: Northern Timber Cruisers Web site reports from fair to spring-like riding conditions in their area. Many trails are icy in the middle – use caution. Stay off water – bad ice. Check the specific grooming reports on local trails posted at their site for more information.
Moosehead region
Greenville: With the recent rains and colder temperatures there is a lot of ice and crusty snow where there is snow cover on the trails. The grooming program has ceased, probably for the year, unless there is a real deluge of snow. There is still good riding out of town in the back country. Many of our club members have ridden 100 miles plus over these areas just lately and had good rides.
Route 201 Corridor
Jackman: The intown trails are pretty well gone. Please consider taking a trailer to the clubhouse or the Moose River Road out of town. The ITS trails out of town had a lot of water on them although it should all be frozen solid now. Off-trail riding is still good with spring conditions. There are temporary alternate trails towards Rockwood and in town. Please watch for signs. Thin snow conditions in a lot of areas.
ITS 89 north: fair; ITS 89 south: poor; ITS 86: fair; intown trails: very poor
Parlin: Trails are holding up well. They are hard-packed and frozen with fresh powder. Grooming scheduled Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Route 66 from Parlin Pond to Pittston Farms is in good shape. Keep in mind off-trail riding in the Parlin Pond area is excellent.
Route 66: Good riding, the trail to Pittston Farms is in good shape. There is more than 45 miles of good riding, all that is being groomed. Route 66 is good to excellent riding from end to end.
ITS 89: Poor to good riding. The trip up on Coburn Mountain needs more snow.
ITS Connector trail from ITS 89 to The Forks have poor conditions along the entire trail. The conditions in town are a bit spotty.
