Police arrested three men in a University of Maine residence hall Sunday and charged each with possession of scheduled drugs.

Gregory Willoughby, 24, of Glenburn and Daniel Logan, 18, of Bangor each was charged with possession of Ecstasy after an amount equaling one crushed pill was found in their possession, UM spokesman Joe Carr said. Willoughby also was wanted on a warrant for failure to pay fines.

Robert Fillion, 20, of Bangor was charged with possession of methadone and marijuana after police found eight tablets of methadone and a small amount of marijuana in his possession, Carr said.

University police Officers Jeff King and Amy Nickerson went to the fourth floor of York Hall around 3 a.m. Sunday after a noise complaint, Carr said. The officers noticed a man entering a public restroom and found several men there.

The officers saw a powder on the edge of a sink that later was identified as Ecstasy, Carr said. After searching and questioning the group, the officers arrested the three men and took them to Penobscot County Jail.

None of the three men was a UM student, Carr said. They had been visiting a student who lives in the dorm.

Three men were charged with felony theft after nearly $2,000 worth of property was stolen from a Bangor apartment building hallway Saturday, police said.

A neighbor called police after seeing three men filling up a tan Chevrolet Corsica with items that belonged to a neighbor and that had been left in the hallway of the 40 High St. building, Bangor police Officer Jim Dearing said.

The witness knew by name one of the men charged, Allen Cole, 19, of Bangor.

Police found Allen and two other men on Jefferson Street with Allen holding a black baseball bat believed to have been taken from the apartment building, Dearing said.

The other two men, Jason Withee, 19, of Stetson and Richard Dawes III, 19, of Bangor, also were charged after police found most of the items in an apartment, Dearing said.

“It was a crime of opportunity,” the officer said. “They had just got done unloading the car when we arrived.”

The men first told police that they were helping a friend move, but Dawes and Withee later told police that Cole had told them that the items had been free for the taking, Dearing said.

Among the items taken were a black baseball bat, 100 VHS tapes, duffel bags, a cement cobra snake statue, a cordless drill, dress shoes, a bag of clothing, picture frames, two collectible NASCAR cars, 20 collectible $20 bills and a 70-year-old German harmonica, police said. The value of the items totaled $1,890.

Cole, who had been on probation for two previous burglaries, likely will be charged with violation of probation among other possible charges, Dearing said. Dawes also had previous arrests for theft.

The front and rear windows of a parked car on Davis Road were broken when concrete blocks were thrown through them, Bangor police said.

The vandalism took place between 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, police reported. Damage to the blue 1994 Oldsmobile was estimated at $1,000.

Police said they still were looking Sunday for a pickup truck stolen from a driveway on Elm Street in Bangor between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The black 1999 GMC pickup was valued at $20,000, Bangor police Officer Al Woolley said. No signs of forced entry, such as broken glass, were found, though the owner claimed the doors all had been locked and that he had both sets of keys to the vehicle in his possession.
