A 16-year-old was arrested Monday night after allegedly attacking two staff members, another juvenile resident and a Hampden police officer, and breaking 10 windows and two doors at a group home in Hampden.
The 6-foot-1, 290-pound juvenile became angered after fellow residents at Aspen Ledge at 25 Mayo Road accused him of possessing a knife, Hampden police Sgt. Scott Webber said.
The juvenile shoved one staff member, struck another in the face, and kicked a female resident in the stomach, Webber said. The staff member who was struck suffered a minor cut.
The teen also punched out six double-paned windows, two entry door windows and kicked two interior doors, police said.
Sgt. Daniel Stewart was the first officer to arrive at to the group home and was pushed and challenged by the teen, Webber said. The sergeant sprayed the juvenile with pepper spray and then was able to subdue him.
“He was just so big staff members couldn’t control him,” Webber said.
Members of the Hampden Ambulance found none of the victims to be seriously injured. Damage to the building is estimated to be between $1,500 and $2,000.
The teen was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for medical and mental evaluation, Webber said. The juvenile suffered injuries to his hand after breaking the windows.
The teen was on probation for a previous assault.
A Bangor man was arrested twice in four hours after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend and then violating his bail condition to stay away from her.
Thomas Daniell, 34, had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend at their apartment on the Griffin Road about his court appearance that morning after he had stated that he wasn’t going to go, Bangor police Officer Butch Moor said.
When the girlfriend attempted to call police, Daniell allegedly grabbed her arm and throat, Moor said. During the struggle, she accidentally dialed her mother’s phone number while trying to dial the police number. Her mother then called police for her.
Moor later was arrested and charged with assault and obstructing the report of a crime and was released on the condition that he not return to the residence or have contact with the woman, police said.
Police were called back to the Griffin Road residence at noon when Daniell went back to the apartment and was found arguing with the woman again while trying to force his way into the apartment, Bangor police Officer Ed Mercier said. The man then was taken back to Penobscot County Jail.
