BOSTON – Fire departments have until April 1 to apply for federal grants to buy equipment and improve safety techniques, according to the U.S. Fire Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Fire departments may apply for grants in one of the following four categories: fire operations and firefighter safety, which includes training, wellness, firefighting equipment and personal protective equipment; fire prevention (public education and awareness, code enforcement and arson prevention); emergency medical services (training and-or equipment); and firefighting vehicles.
The grants are awarded on a competitive basis and the deadline to apply is Monday, April 1.
Applications are available at www.usfa.fema.gov/grants and, while this year’s applications are primarily Internet-based, fire departments without Internet access may call (866) 274-0960.
