TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M baseball team racked up 10 runs in the fourth inning and 16 hits overall, rolling over the University of Maine 14-3 Tuesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.

The Rattlers, now 11-15, avenged a 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Black Bears Monday night. Maine, which had won four straight before Tuesday’s game, is now 8-2.

Florida A&M extended a 3-2 lead into a 13-2 advantage after eight hits in the inning. Freshman Greg Creek of Chelsea, a former Maranacook High of Readfield star who was making his first career start, was responsible for five of those hits.

Aaron Smith replaced Creek in the fourth and gave up four runs and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Scott Holmes’ two-run single and Vince Palmer’s RBI double were the big hits for Florida A&M in the fourth.

Holmes drove in four runs in the game. Nick Parker was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Manuel Quinones hit a solo homer in the second inning and Morris Scott hit one in the sixth.

Maine’s Mike Ross was 2 for 3 and drove in two runs. He gave the Black Bears an early lead when he doubled and drove in Simon Williams, who had singled in the first inning. Florida A&M came right back in the second inning when Holmes drove in Frank Scott and Parker.

The Rattlers added another run in the second to set up their fourth-inning outburst.

Maine tried to rally in the top of the seventh when Peter Saunders delivered a pinch-hit double and scored on a Ross single. The Bears had runners on second and third with two outs but Mark Reichley grounded out to end the game.

Mike Connell (2-2) earned the win for Florida A&M. He scattered nine hits, struck out seven and walked four.

Creek (0-1) walked five and struck out two.

Maine will face Furman at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Greenville, S.C.

Monday night, freshman catcher Aaron Izaryk doubled with one out in the 10th inning to plate Simon Williams with the go-ahead run as the University of Maine pulled out a 9-8, extra-inning win.

The Black Bears squandered a four-run lead in the ninth inning.

Izaryk, who was forced into action in the second inning when starting catcher Alain Picard suffered an injury to his left hamstring while hustling out an infield single, reached base four times. He walked once and was hit by a pitch twice.
