BANGOR – Dennis Paper Co. has purchased the former Jordan’s Meats building and has moved its operations from Veazie to the Thatcher Street site.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to the city of Bangor assessor’s office, the land is valued at $73,300 and the building is valued at $983,300.
Ron Dennis, president of the 94-year-old distribution company, said the Jordan’s vacancy provided his business with an opportunity to expand its food service division. Jordan’s had commercial-size refrigerators and freezers Dennis Paper needed to store frozen foods.
Dennis Paper, which employs 33 people, is a distributor of janitorial supplies, paper and food service products to restaurants in northeast Maine, Dennis said. The company has experienced double-digit percentage growth in the last five years, he said, but he did not want to disclose annual sales.
Dennis said the company could add eight to 10 sales and distributor positions in the coming months as the business gears up to compete even more with Sysco Foods, the state’s largest food service products distributor.
Sysco, whose New England operations are based in Westbrook, recently completed the purchase of Serca, another food service products distributor, which has a distribution facility in Hampden.
Dennis Paper was in Veazie for more than 30 years before the move last weekend to Bangor, Dennis said. Foodbrands America, the parent company of Jordan’s Meats, laid off more than 80 employees when it closed its Bangor operations in mid-September.
