Eighth annual HOPE Festival to be held April 20 in Brewer

The eighth annual HOPE Festival – Help Organize Peace Earthwide – is coming to the Brewer Auditorium 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 20.

The free festival celebrates Earth Day and the work done by more than 60 groups that work for peace, justice and a clean, safe, harmonious environment in eastern Maine.

Attractions include live music, organic food, children’s programs and activities as well as information about organizations doing their part for a better world.

Admission is free. The festival is sponsored by the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine.

Limited table space is still available for nonprofit, social-change organizations and volunteers are needed.

For an application or more information, call 942-9343.

Featured performers this year are Lynn Deeves, Evergreen, Dave Mallet and The Project.

The children’s program will include music and storytelling with Jennifer Armstrong, “Fun of Yoga” with Brenda Fielding, and juggling with Zachary Fields.

Community groups, including the Maine Discovery Museum, will provide craft and activity tables. Other attractions will be organic food for sale, a 5K fun run, renewable energy and solar car displays, and the recycled sculptures of acclaimed artist Wally Warren.

According to festival organizers, since Sept. 11, the need for people to celebrate the earth and foster connections to one another is greater than ever.
