The town of Levant has recently appointed a new fire chief to lead the town’s volunteer fire department. Three people applied for the position; one of them was Levant resident Brian Goggins. Goggins is a retired firefighter with 25 years of qualified experience (Firefighter III, Licensed Ambulance Attendant, Extrication Technician, pumper and aerial ladder operator, etc.), and has more than 23 years of experience as a full-time firefighter with the city of Brewer.
Goggins comes highly recommended and many of us feel he is the most qualified applicant for the position. As a resident and former Selectman of Levant, I believe the town should appoint the most qualified person for the position and not allow favoritism, local politics and grudges to manipulate hiring policy. The person hired for this job should be a resident, available and qualified. Goggins is that.
If any resident of Levant would like to see the most qualified person as fire chief, call Town Manager Derik Goodine at 884-7660 or 884-7466 and voice your opinion. Ask to see the qualifications of applicants for the fire chief position. Then ask who influences the decision when it comes to appointing the fire chief.
