PRESQUE ISLE – Democrat Jeremy Fischer has announced his candidacy for the position of state representative for District 145.

Fischer has stated as areas of concern the decline in the number of young people in Maine in the last decade and the state’s continued economic stagnation.

The candidate has served as an intern for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and U.S. Rep. John Baldacci in Washington.

He is a volunteer organizer for “Parents’ Night Out,” a charitable event run by St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Fischer expects to graduate in April with highest honors with a degree in political science from the University of Michigan. He was a 2001 Rhodes scholarship finalist and a nominee for the George Mitchell scholarship. He was the 2001 University of Michigan student employee of the year and was inducted into several honor societies.

District 145 includes part of Presque Isle.
