Lemieux, Marshall pace Huskies’ sweep

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Adam Lemieux and Brian Marshall led the University of Southern Maine to a baseball doubleheader sweep of Concordia College on Monday, 4-2 in the opener and 11-10 in the second game.

In the first game, Lemieux nailed a game-tying RBI double and a two-run homer for Southern Maine.

Andy Lang added a double and a single for the Huskies while Tyler Delorme added a solo home run.

Jesse Barnacle had an RBI triple for the Cobbers of Moorhead, Minn.

In the second game, Marshall hit a pair of two-run singles while Lemieux and Colin Loveless each added RBI doubles for USM.

Ryan Hebrink had two singles for three RBIs as well as a three-run homer in the first for Concordia while Ben Kvidt made a final effort for the Cobbers with a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh.

Southern Maine wins two of three

At Cape Coral, Fla., Emily Forbes slammed a two-run triple for Southern Maine in the sixth inning and Sunshine Anders scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh after she tripled to lift Southern Maine over Union College (N.Y.) 3-2 in the first of three games.

Endicott (Mass.) College beat USM in the second game 3-0 and the Huskies edged Wisconsin-Whitewater in the third game 1-0.

Melinda Colon had an RBI single for Union in the first game.

In the second game, Adrienne Guzman had an RBI single for Union while Lili Doherty and Becky Bell each had multiple hits and Renee Kelly held the Huskies to only one hit, an Anders single.

Anders had a single for USM’s only hit.

In the third game, Anders again scored the winning run, this time on a hit by Sarah McLean. Melissa Henderson scattered five hits in the victory.

Heather Wendt and Katie Adams combined for Wisconsin-Whitewater to allow only three hits.
