SULLIVAN – A written note found Tuesday in a boys restroom at Mountain View Middle School temporarily interrupted classes at the Route 200 school, according to officials.

Union 96 Superintendent Harvey Kelley said Wednesday that after the note was discovered around 10 a.m., the school was searched but no bombs or suspicious packages were found.

The school gymnasium and the abutting classrooms were searched first, Kelley said. The pupils were moved into the gym as school personnel and officers with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department searched the rest of the building, he said. Classes were resumed after the search was complete, he said.

Kelley said school officials are investigating the incident.

“We have handwriting samples, so we’re hopeful to find out who the perpetrator was,” the superintendent said.
