Fort Kent – Roger A. Roy, assistant professor of mathematics and business at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, was presented the annual George J. Mitchell Award at the Aroostook County Democratic meeting held March 2.

The award is presented to individuals who personify the qualities of service, problem solving and dedication to people through public service.

Roy, who resides in Caribou, has volunteered in many Democratic races.

He served as chairman of the Aroostook County Democratic Committee from 1992 through 1998 and has continued to serve as a vice chairman or treasurer until the present.

In 1992, Roy created, edited and published Aroostook Democrats, a political newsletter for the county committee, and he remains its editor and publisher today.
