BANGOR – Police said a Bangor motorist was driving too fast for road conditions when his pickup truck went off the road Tuesday and struck a utility pole, snapping it.

Brandon J. Harvey, 20, was heading down Kenduskeag Avenue about a half-mile from the road’s intersection with Broadway about 8:45 p.m. when he lost control of the 2000 GMC pickup he was driving. Harvey told Officer Brad Hanson that the pickup truck hit some slush, which pulled the truck toward the utility pole.

The impact broke the pole, bringing down the wires as well. Harvey drove off after the accident, although Hanson later checked out the damage to the pickup and reported that the driver’s side rear quarter panel had an estimated $3,000 damage.

Harvey was traveling at imprudent speeds before the accident in an area posted at 35 mph, according to the police report. No charges were being filed in the case.
