AUGUSTA – A proposal to prevent election fraud by setting the stage for a statewide voter registry is working its way through the Legislature. The bill, supported by Maine election officials, sets the groundwork for building a statewide file by collecting databases from 10 or 15 municipalities, Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky said.
A statewide registry would have to be created in order to implement voting over the Internet, Gwadosky said.
