FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine improved its record to 8-4 by splitting a baseball doubleheader with Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Huskies took the opener 6-3 and fell 9-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game, Jason Thibodeau surrendered just five hits, retiring the last nine hitters he faced, improving his record to 1-1. Andy Lang led USM with a two-run triple and two singles, while Pete L’Italien provided a double and two singles.
In the second game, Dan Gnatzig keyed a five-run seventh inning with a two-run triple as the 17th-ranked Warhawks salvaged a split.
Travis Van Zile added a two-run homer for the winners. Rob Misora laced an RBI triple.
Tyler Delorme picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice for the Huskies.
