Dube’s 3 hits spark UMF sweep of Maine Maritime

CASTINE – Richelle Dube rapped a double and two singles in the opener to spark the University of Maine-Farmington to a sweep of Maine Maritime Academy 14-10 and 13-6 in a college softball doubleheader Thursday.

In the first game, Sophia Stanley, Heather Marden, and Sam Goyette each had two singles for the Beavers.

Jessica Clifford hit three doubles for MMA, while Caitlin Carr had a single and a triple and Elena Hanlin added two singles.

In the second game, Dube had a single and a double while Andrea Benvenuti, Cindy Ravinski, and Marden contributed with two singles apiece.

Abbi Darling led the Mariners with a double and two singles, Carr and Hanlin posted a double and single each, and Amanda Wells added two singles.

Thomas splits doubleheader

At Fort Myers, Fla., Ryan O’Connor slugged two home runs to lead Thomas College of Waterville to a 7-6 victory and a split of its doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch (Wis.).

The Crusaders won the opener 10-0.

In the first game, Cam Pollnow led Cardinal Stritch with two singles.

Ryan Buttice had a double for Thomas.

In the second game, O’Connor posted four RBIs, and Scott Brawn drove in three runs with a homer and a single. Buttice chipped in with two singles.

Chad Stowell and Jeremy Dow combined on a five-hitter.

John Zmlicka had two singles for the Crusaders.
