BAILEYVILLE – Units from the Maine Warden Service, U.S. Border Patrol and the Baileyville Police Department responded to a search Sunday night for five children who wandered from a back yard and were found a short time later in town.

Patrolman Justin Leighton of the Baileyville Police Department said the children, ranging in age from 8 to 10, had been playing behind a house, then apparently wandered along a 4-wheeler trail. Two were not wearing jackets.

He did not disclose the children’s identities.

The children were found “cold, wet and one lost a shoe,” Leighton said, about 8 p.m. Sunday and were returned to their families. He said they had traveled 1/2 mile to a mile from the yard.
