OM competition winners heading for World’s play Bar Harbor, Lincoln schools post wins

LEWISTON — Teams from two Auburn schools are moving on to the World’s Competition next month at the University of Colorado after a daylong Odyssey of the Mind contest Saturday.

Lincoln Middle School and Conners-Emerson School in Bar Harbor placed first and third in the Center Stage portion of the competition.

A seven-member team from Edward Little High School and two teams from Webster Intermediate School have qualified to travel to Boulder, Colo., to compete May 22 to 25. Teams will now begin fund-raising.

As part of the competition at Bates College, teams from across the state tackled five challenges.

Below, a synopses and the results:

The Chameleon – teams designed and built vehicles to change appearances in three different environments.

OMER’s Earthly Adventures – teams presented an original performance about environmental preservation.

Center Stage – teams created an original performance based on a work of classic literature, with choreographed dance, stage set and epilogue.

It’s a Snap! – teams built a structure out of balsa wood that had to stay together without glue or string and withstand as much weight as possible.

The Ostrich Factor – teams created a humorous performance based on a character that can hide its head, much like an ostrich, to disappear.
