WATERVILLE – The Maine Lightning 14 and under girls YBOA basketball team won the state championship at Colby College on Sunday by defeating the Downeast Suns from Calais.

With the win, the Lightning earned a trip to the YBOA nationals that will be held in Florida in July. Competing for the Lightning were Jesse Abbot, Cassie Martell, Ashley Weeks, MaryAnn Croce, Samantha Wiley, Meredith Wheeler, Megan Franklin, Val Derouche and Britani Jones. The team is coached by Scott Jones of Skowhegan.
