Patriots to visit Bass Park today

BANGOR – Three members of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and team owner Bob Kraft will be honored at a rally at the Bass Park grandstand today.

Super Bowl hero Adam Vinatieri, team captain Lawyer Milloy, defensive end Bobby Hamilton and Kraft will arrive at Bangor International Airport at 1 p.m. They will then receive a police escort to Bass Park where they expect to begin the rally at 1:15 p.m.

There is no admission charge to the rally, which is being hosted by the city of Bangor, and fans will receive a commemorative team photo of the Patriots from the Bangor Daily News.

Fans may arrive at Bass Park at noon as the rally will also honor the Bangor High School and University of Maine football teams at 12:30 p.m., followed by the arrival of the Patriots.

Bass Park is behind the Bangor Auditorium and is the site of the Bangor State Fair and harness racing during the summer. The rally is not being held in the Bangor Auditorium because it is being set up for the annual spring garden show.

The rally is part of the Lombardi Trophy Tour as Kraft, a Boston native, promised after the Super Bowl that the team would visit all six New England states to thank them for their support.

“We have to be tremendously thankful to the Patriots for honoring their commitment to visit the six New England states, to come up here and provide this opportunity,” Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove said.

The Patriots will stay at the rally for approximately 45 minutes before returning to BIA where they will fly down to Portland for a parade at 3 p.m.

“Their visit will be brief, but nonetheless, they are very excited and enthusiastic to join us here in Bangor,” Bangor Mayor Michael Crowley said.
