Sushi at Shaw’s

Next time you run to Shaw’s on Main Street in Bangor to pick up toilet paper or a gallon of milk, check out the new sushi bar, located (appropriately enough) near the fish counter at the back of the store. The maki, sashimi and nigiri can be made to order, and to-go packs are prepared fresh daily. The sushi bar also offers salads, edamame (soybeans) and combo platters, along with supplies to make your own sushi at home. Talk about one-stop shopping.

Tea time

Have you ever driven by a cozy inn and wondered what it’s like inside? You can find out during a Mother’s Day tea and tour of Bar Harbor’s bed and breakfast inns, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Owners of the nine participating inns will serve up tea and conversation about the history of each property. The tour costs $10 per person, which will benefit the Bar Harbor Food Pantry. Chefs to the rescue

In times of crisis, a hot meal can often soothe the soul and the stomach. The Downeast Chapter of the American Culinary Federation recognizes this, and will offer a three-part series of disaster training for cooks and chefs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, April 30, May 7 and May 14 at the Hancock County Technical Center in Ellsworth. The free class will teach chefs and cooks to work with the American Red Cross in times of disaster. For information or to register, call Brian Langley at 667-9729.
