Gov. Angus King has designated April as Autism Awareness Month in recognition of the third-largest developmental disability in the United States.
More than 2,000 Maine residents may have this spectrum disorder. Characteristics include extreme aloneness and unresponsiveness based on inability to understand and use language in a normal way.
