FARMINGTON – Outstanding pitching efforts by Melissa Henderson and Kari Vance sparked the University of Southern Maine to a pair of college softball shutouts over UMaine-Farmington Thursday.
The Huskies won 11-0 in the opener and 4-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game, Henderson tossed a five-hit shutout to pick up her seventh win of the year for the winners.
Sarah McLean smacked a homer for the Huskies and Kristen Tong added a double.
In the second game, Vance picked up where Henderson left off, hurling a two-hit shutout to spark Southern Maine.
The Huskies manages only six hits in the game, and Renee Heath recorded three of them.
Andrea Benvenuti had both hits for the Beavers.

At Waterville, the Nor’easters scored three unearned runs to oust the White Mules.
Amanda Brown limited Colby to seven singles. She helped her own cause by knocking a two-run double. Michelle Clark singled in a run.
Annette Caswell went five innings for the White Mules, allowing one run on three hits.

Thomas sweeps Maine Maritime
At Castine, the Thomas Terriers crushed 27 hits and plated 38 runs to sweep a doubleheader from Maine Maritime Academy, 16-4 in the opener and 22-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game, Courtney Corbett slammed a home run plus a single and Jasmine Carey had three singles to pace Thomas of Waterville.
Erin Lovely, Kati Morrell, Dee Kelly, Kendra Pelow, and Chrystal Fuller each banged out two hits for the Terriers.
Alaina Hanlon had two hits for the Mariners and Abbi Darling had a double.
In the second game, the Terriers knocked eight hits and Maine Maritime committed three errors during a 17-run fourth inning.
Lovely had three hits, including a double, for Thomas. Corbett had a single and a triple, and knocked in three runs.
Heather Johnson had a pair of hits for Maine Maritime.

At Waltham, Mass., Jeff Krasner keyed a five-run eighth inning and snapped a 4-4 tie with a single as the Judges prevailed.
Tyler DeLorme led the Huskies with a double, a triple and a single while Brian Marshall added three singles and Craig Gureckis added two.

At Waterville, Marcia Ingraham scored four goals and dished out three assists as 4-3 Colby rolled.
Ali Grenert contributed three goals for the White Mules. Ally King handed out five assists and notched a goal. Anna Schierberl-Scherr and Mary Zito combined to make four saves on eight shots.
Hope Lavigne tossed in a pair of goals for the 3-3 Nor’easters. Caitlin Powderly rejected 16 of 41 shots.
