CASTINE – Maine Maritime Academy will host 400 area eighth-grade pupils from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at the Science and Technology Project.

Various businesses will showcase their technologies to pupils, the media and government leaders.

The businesses will also introduce pupils to careers and occupations in science and technology through interactive displays and demonstrations.

Contributors include the Finance Authority of Maine, Maine Science and Technology Foundation, the Jackson Laboratory, Maine Department of Education, Acadia Health Education Coalition, Maine Space Grant Consortium, and Cianbro Corp.

Career areas represented include: biotechnology, boat building, forensic science, aerotechnology, composite materials, precision manufacturing, health professions, aquaculture and marine, Web design, environmental technology, and construction technology.

MMA students will guide pupil visitors and their teachers to different sites and share experiences on areas of academic studies linked to career interests and skills. Parents are encouraged to attend.
