HALLOWELL – Police on Monday pulled the body of a Pittston woman from her car that was found submerged in the Kennebec River.

Heather Stratton, 35, was found dead in her car in less than 10 feet of water off Route 201, police said.

Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said police believe that Stratton was driving south late Sunday night or early Monday when her car crossed the road and rolled down an embankment before landing upright in the river.

McCausland said an autopsy would be performed, perhaps as early as Tuesday.
