HOULTON – Dr. Ted L. Sussman, an internist and cardiologist, has officially taken office as governor of the Maine chapter of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine.

As a governor, serving a four-year term, Sussman will plan scientific meetings, credential new members, and disseminate college policy, working with other council members. He also will represent Maine members on the national American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine board of governors.

Sussman was recognized during the organization’s annual session last week in Philadelphia.

The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty society in the nation, with more than 450 members in the Maine chapter. Internists specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses that primarily affect adults.

Sussman is in private practice in Houlton, where he directs cardiopulmonary rehabilitation at the Houlton Regional Hospital. He also serves on the affiliate faculty of Eastern Maine Medical Center Family Practice. He teaches as an adjunct assistant professor at the Dartmouth School of Medicine and as an assistant professor at the University of Vermont School of Medicine.
