Two transients were arrested Sunday evening after allegedly stealing a car owned by Angelo’s Pizzeria from the restaurant’s 499 Hammond St. location in Bangor, police said Monday.

Police arrested Jatonya Jones, 18, and Detric Stanley, 19, after police found them in a car parked behind the Shaw House on First Street, Bangor police Officer Christopher Morley said. Jones was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license. The two each were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and were taken to Penobscot County Jail.

An employee at the restaurant noticed the two walking around the building several times and then leaving in a black 1994 Ford Escort with Jones driving and Stanley in the passenger seat, officials said. The keys had been left in the car at the time it was taken.

Jones and Stanley remained in jail Monday night with cash bail set at $240 each.

Police believe a transient is to blame for a break-in on Main Road North in Hampden, according to Hampden police Officer Ben Eyles.

The home, which has been unoccupied for three years, was broken into about a week ago when someone forced entry by breaking off the padlock to the shed, Eyles said. The person stayed there for a short time and appeared to have gone to sleep on a bed in the house.

The home had been empty since the death of the residents, the officer said. A family member who now owns the home checked in Monday and found that it had been broken into.

Officials are investigating whether anything was taken, Eyles said. Numerous boxes reportedly had been rifled through and officials are checking to see if anything was removed.

Police are looking for a white male in his mid-30s after he was seen stealing a donation jar for the Bangor Humane Society from Swett’s Tire & Auto Center at 451 Hogan Road on Monday, Bangor police Officer Myron Warner said. Around $20 was in the jar at the time it was stolen.

A Bangor woman’s car received $400 in damage when someone broke the windshield of the 1998 Mazda. Someone allegedly threw two beer bottles at the car, Bangor police Officer Jeff Small said. Police have suspects in the case.

Police were investigating an act of vandalism Monday night after someone shot out a window at Bangor Window and Shade at 105 Main St., police said.

The window was damaged sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Bangor police Officer Erik Tall said. Damage to the window is estimated at $500.

Owners of a camp on Madagascal Pond in Burlington reported that fishing equipment was taken from their camp during a series of burglaries along the lake, officials said.

The incident was one of four camp burglaries on the lake believed to have taken place in late March, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Quint Goodall said Monday.

Police are waiting for owners of two of the other camps to return and report what is missing, the deputy said. Police are investigating the thefts.

The burglars forced their way into the cabins, but the manner of entry is not yet being released, Goodall said.
