3 newscasters at WABI-TV5 agree to stay with station

BANGOR – Craig Colson has accepted the position of WABI-TV5 co-anchor of the weekday 6 p.m. newscast, a role he has filled on an interim basis since the departure of longtime TV5 News anchor Don Colson in November, the station announced Wednesday.

Craig Colson will continue to co-anchor with Sharon Pelletier, who also recently signed on for a new term with TV5 News. Also agreeing to an extended term with the station is Lanie Witt, co-anchor of the TV5 First News 5:30 report and wife of Craig Colson.

Colson began his broadcasting career at TV5 in November 1985, upon his family’s return to Maine after years in Rhode Island and Texas. Still a teen-ager, he worked as a news photographer, a position he held for four years before moving to the other side of the camera as one of TV5’s field reporters.

Colson later began anchoring morning news updates, and eventually moved to the anchor desk for the station’s weekend newscasts.

In 1995, Colson was promoted to weekday anchor for the 11 p.m. newscast, a role he continues in his new position.

Pelletier began her career with TV5 News in 1996. After an internship and part-time position as news production assistant, she assumed the role of morning news co-anchor, ultimately advancing to the co-anchor position for TV5 News at 6 and 11.

Witt began her career with TV5 News in 1994 as a general assignment reporter. She moved to the anchor desk for the weekday morning newscast, and was tapped as co-anchor for TV5 First News at 5:30 on its debut in 1996.
