BREWER – Dave Mallett, Lynn Deeves, Evergreen and The Project will be featured entertainers during the annual HOPE Festival 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Brewer Auditorium.

Participants in the Help Organize Peace Earthwide event will include more than 60 organizations working for peace, justice and a sustainable environment.

Organizers said that those attending would be able to learn about resources available, meet local activists, learn about how they can become involved and be entertained at the same time?

Groups working on solar energy and Maine’s forests will mingle with those working on economic justice issues, human rights, non-violent conflict resolution, domestic violence, corporate welfare and sweatshops.

Organizations will sell crafts, T-shirts, buttons and baked goods, and a variety of organic food.

The Sierra Club, Greater Bangor NOW, Greater Bangor NAACP, Maine Solar Energy Association, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, the Clean Clothes Campaign, Spruce Run and many other organizations will display information and distribute literature about their work to encourage participants to become involved in community activism.

Live music will be provided by several performers.

An opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., followed by energetic folk music by Lynn Deeves of Richmond.

Rousing music continues with pop-rock group, The Project, at 11:45 a.m.

Nationally noted singer and songwriter Dave Mallett of Sebec relaxes the pace a bit when he performs at 1:15 p.m.

Evergreen, a much-enjoyed four-member group playing bluegrass and other acoustic music, finishes the day at 2:45 p.m.

Children’s program organizers Katie Greenman and Anne Hayes Grillo have pulled together a program featuring musician and storyteller Jennifer Armstrong performing at 11 a.m., Brenda Fielding’s kids’ program at 12:30 p.m., and Charlotte Herbold’s “The Council of Creatures” show, starring Flora, at 1:30 p.m. There will be juggling with Zachary Field, as well.

Children and parents will be able to learn about the environment with a variety of fun and informative projects, activities including the Discovery Museum and an Instrument Petting Zoo with members of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.

People interested in international affairs, civil rights, education, domestic violence, and many other issues will be able to find out more about what is happening in Eastern Maine.

A 5-kilometer Fun Run will begin at 11 a.m., and there will be displays of Wally Warren’s recycled sculptures, and of solar and hybrid cars.
