Shiretowners slip past Wildcats

HOULTON – The Houlton Shiretowners banged out 22 hits but scored the game-winning run without a hit as they outlasted Presque Isle 23-22 in a high school softball contest Monday afternoon.

With runners at second and third and two outs in the sixth, the winning run came home on a groundout to the left side. The runner from third scored before the runner at second was tagged out on the fielder’s choice.

Anna Lenentine had a triple, double, two singles, and three RBIs to lead Houlton. Claire Thompson had a double and three singles. Emily Cole and Kasey Cleary hit two doubles and a single each, but Cole added four RBIs.

Laura Wilderman went 4-for-4 (one double, three singles) with four RBIs for Presque Isle. Alison Putnam singled twice for two RBIs.

Fort Fairfield 18, Wisdom 3

At Fort Fairfield, Terri Lynch racked up five RBIs on a single and a three-run triple in the fourth inning to power the Tigers to the win.

Fort Fairfield’s Maranda Butler hit two triples and drove in two runs. Ashlee Bubar struck out four and gave up two hits in four innings of work. The Tigers took advantage of 13 walks issued by the Pioneer pitchers.

Michelle Bourgoin and Shannon Burbee each singled for Wisdom of St. Agatha.

At East Sullivan, Annie Woodsum struck out 17, walked three, and scattered five hits to lead Narraguagus of Harrington.

Woodsum also starred offensively with two triples, a single, and five RBIs. Brook Courchaine had a double, single, and one RBI.

Dani Crowley hit an RBI single and Sandra Klausmeyer added a double for the Tigers.

At Hodgdon, Brandi Crandall hit a double and a single for two RBIs to help lead the Warriors to the win.

Kristy Brooker had two RBIs on two singles while Kristine Brewer contributed with three singles.

Lindsay Stewart led Hodgdon with three singles for two RBIs while Sam Williams, Amanda Fitzpatrick, Erin Foster and Sarah Quint each added two singles for the Hawks.

At East Machias, Katie Smith allowed three hits, struck out six, and walked two in five innings to propel the Dragons.

Smith also tripled, singled, and had two RBIs. Katie Holmes drove in three runs on two singles.

Jen Savard led Washington Academy with a double, a single, and an RBI. Molly Kurz hit an RBI single.

At Jonesport, Gabby Eastman doubled twice and drove in two runs to help the Patriots roll.

Annie Babineau hit two singles and a double for Bangor Christian. Heather Niles singled twice and Kendil Snow added a double.

Danielle Alley paced the Royalettes with two singles and an RBI. Ashley Fenton and Naomi Chandler each singled twice.

At Machias, Jenny Grant had three singles and three RBIs to lead the Machias Bulldogs over Shead of East Machias.

Sarah Irving doubled twice for the Bulldogs.

Nadine Bouchard led the Tigers with two singles and two RBIs.

At Sherman Station, Tianna Stanley’s two-run single keyed a six-run seventh-inning rally that broke open a one-run game.

Lynn Farrington went the distance for the Wolverines of East Millinocket, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking one. Beth Chasse had a run-scoring single.

Jayme Green doubled and singled and drove in two runs for Katahdin.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Tessa Miller knocked in four runs with four singles to pace the Eagles.

Krystal Roberts hit a home run, a double and a single for Ellsworth behind winner Mallory Patten.

Mandi Murray tripled and doubled for Foxcroft Academy.

At Corinth, Sarah Carnes’ RBI double in the sixth provided the winning run as the Tigers nipped the Red Devils.

Cindy Koscielny powered Dexter with a 5-for-5 effort, including a triple and a double and one RBI. Ashley Foster hit three singles while Karen Nelson, Kristy Veazie, and Brittany Veazie each singled twice.

Central tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh when Jessica Kaelin hit a two-run double. Nicole Labbe added three singles and Shawna Bell hit two.

At Lincoln, righty Kasse Brown spun a three-hitter, striking out four and walking three, and Kristi McKinnon’s RBI single keyed a five-run third-inning rally that supplied the Lynx with a six-run cushion.

McKinnon and Laci Whitney had two singles each and Chelsey Nicastro had a run-scoring double.

Lindsay Ouellette, Jean Hamlin, and Ashleigh McMahon had singles for Penquis of Milo.

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall pitched a two-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one, to lead the Lions to victory.

Crandall allowed back-to-back singles to Megan Osier and Bean Flagg in the fifth, then retired the last 13 batters she faced. Sam Ellis paced Belfast with three singles.

Melissa Gray and Crandall hit RBI doubles, while Kate Ross and Lauren Overlock stroked run-scoring singles.
