Salmon club plans protest at breakfast

BREWER – Penobscot Salmon Club President Lou Horvath will cast a hookless fly into the Penobscot River’s Bangor Salmon Pool Saturday in protest of the federal law prohibiting fishing for Atlantic salmon.

The club is pushing to get the river reopened to salmon fishing and the ceremonial protest is part of Penobscot Salmon Club’s breakfast which will be held 6-9:30 a.m. at the club which is off North Main Street. The breakfast is open to the public. Ham and eggs, baked beans, biscuits, doughnuts, coffee, and smoked salmon with bagels and cream cheese will be served at the breakfast.

Door prizes of salmon flies and fine art sporting prints will be given while a raffle will be held for a salmon weathervane carved by Mike Butler.
