Tripp leads MDI past Brewer 5-3 Bangor, Hampden earn victories

MOUNT DESERT – Travis Tripp scattered six hits to lead the Mount Desert Island Trojans to a 5-3 schoolboy baseball victory over the Brewer Witches Tuesday.

Tripp struck out four and walked three.

B.J. Greenleaf smacked a two-run homer in the fourth for Mount Desert Island while Brian Greenleaf and Brad Dalton added an RBI single apiece.

Joel Barrett jolted a solo home run to pace Brewer and Shawn Sutherland added an RBI single.

At Rockland, Garrett Joslyn’s grand slam in the third inning gave the Eagles of South China all the runs they needed.

Wayne Bridgham followed Joslyn’s blast with a solo shot of his own. Dustin Gay posted a double and single. Starter Jesse Wing picked up the win, and Ben Powell struck out the side in the ninth.

Rick Bagnall rapped a pair of singles for the Tigers. Adam Ross took the loss, but struck out 12.

At Howland, Tyler Wilson was the top hitter for Bangor Christian with two singles.

Jeremy Hallet hit an RBI single for Penobscot Valley.

At Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium, Nate Hall’s run-scoring double snapped a 2-2 tie and triggered a four-run rally which gave Bangor its win over Nokomis of Newport.

Chris Bombardier followed with an RBI single and Andy Treadwell belted a run-scoring double before a throwing error produced the final run.

Treadwell had two singles to go with his double; Hall also had a single and Nick Larochelle singled twice and drove in two runs.

Josh Heath picked up the win in relief of Derrick Shain and Steve Fergerson got the final three outs.

Justin Veazie and Jody Mullis had run-scoring singles for the Warriors.

At Hermon, Billy Shannon led the Hampden offense with a two-run single.

Pat Morin hit two singles for the Broncos while Kyle Dalton added a double.

Joey Schacht had a single for two RBIs for Hermon, and Bret Tarr and Matt Watson each chipped in with singles.

At Ellsworth, Ray Hanf hit two singles and had an RBI to help the Eagles to the win.

Chad Smith had an RBI triple for Ellsworth while Chase Buckingham added an RBI single.

Ryan Levesque nailed a two-run homer and a single for Orono while Mike Merritt hit two singles and Dusty Thomas contributed with an RBI single.

John Bapst 10, Old Town 10

At Old Town, John Bapst and Old Town battled it out for nine innings until the game was called due to darkness. It remains uncertain whether the game will be counted a tie or be finished at a later date.

Brad Goody hit a home run for Old Town and threw out the potentially game-winning run from right field in the eighth inning.

Joe Guerrette had a homer and a single for three RBIs while Brian Tewhey had three singles for Old Town.

Zev Myerwitz nailed a three-run home run and an RBI single for John Bapst while Zach Means and Conrad Brown each contributed with a double and two singles for two RBIs.

At Mars Hill, Jason Woodworth led Central Aroostook with two singles and three RBIs.

Brian Grew contributed a triple and a single while Patrick Walsh added a triple for the Panthers.

Eric Ham hit a three-run double for Ashland.

Houlton 8, Madawaska 1

At Houlton, the Shiretowners’ Mike Lenentine pitched a one-hitter, striking out 15, walking only two, and allowing no earned runs.

Andrew Brown helped out with an RBI single for Houlton.

Bryan Daigle had a single for Madawaska’s only hit.

Reporting games

Guidelines for coaches

During the busy high school season, the NEWS asks that managers and coaches for the home teams promptly report the games. Games can be reported starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Games can not be reported on Saturday.

Those seeking to report games from the Greater Bangor area may call at 990-8275. Those outside the Bangor area may call toll free at 1-800-310-8600. Game results will also be accepted through the fax machine. Its number is 990-8092.

Coaches and managers are urged to provide details for both teams when reporting games. First names of players on both teams as well as statistics are needed. Those not providing full details for both teams run the risk of the games not being published in the paper.
