Former University of Maine women’s basketball star Jamie Cassidy has been named a free-agent allocation to the WNBA’s Detroit Shock. Free agents are expected to report to training camp Monday.
Cassidy, who spent the winter playing professionally in Germany, was last on a WNBA roster as a center for the Miami Sol in 2001. The Sol cut her before the season started.
The Shock have three other centers in training camp. The team’s first preseason game is May 13 against the Houston Comets.
The 6-foot-4 Cassidy appeared in 22 games as a Sol rookie in the 2000 season. She averaged 3.4 points.
