The locker rooms have been refurbished and the gym offers a full circuit of weight-lifting equipment and free weights as well as cardiovascular equipment such as treadmills, steppers, bicycles and rowing machines. Open MRI of Bangor has opened for business at 1048 Union St., offering “open magnetic resonance imaging,” which was designed for people unable or unwilling to undergo a traditional MRI due to claustrophobia, physical size or anxiety. Unlike the tubular shape of traditional MRI machines, the open MRI system is open at the sides, which allows patients to feel less confined and to see around them during their exam, according to center manager Susan Crosby. The facility is owned and operated by Insight Health Services Corp., headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif. Results are interpreted by Spectrum Radiology/Northern Division of Bangor.
