A Carmel woman escaped serious injury when her car went off the road on Route 2 in Hermon on Sunday evening, officials said.
Amanda Swartz, 22, complained of neck and knee pain after she lost control of her black 1990 Chevy Lumina while driving south on Route 2 down Miller Hill, Deputy Kenny Williams of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said. The car was demolished in the accident after striking a guardrail head-on and breaking off one of the rail’s supporting posts.
Slippery roads from a snowstorm that swept through Maine Sunday were blamed for the accident, Williams said. Swartz was wearing her seat belt and later was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for evaluation.
Two Eddington teens reported neck and back pain after the truck they were in crossed an oncoming traffic lane, went down an embankment and rolled once before coming to a stop on all four wheels, police said.
Kevin Morse, 17, and Donnie Miller, 18, were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for evaluation after the accident at 6 p.m. Sunday on Route 178 in Eddington, Trooper Rod Charette said. Slushy roads during Sunday’s snowstorm caused Morse, who had been driving the green 1994 Mazda pickup, to lose control of the vehicle.
Damage to the truck was estimated at $6,500, Charette said.
A Bangor man was arrested on outstanding warrants from three counties and charged with possession of a scheduled drug after Bangor police answered a noise complaint at an apartment at 46 Patten St. on Friday night, officials said.
When Bangor police Officers James Dearing and Allen Hayden arrived, they discovered that one of the residents of the apartment, Gary Porter, 52, was wanted on warrants from Rockland in Knox County for assault, from Houlton in Aroostook County for operating a vehicle after the revocation of his license, and from Bangor in Penobscot County for failure to appear in court on a theft charge.
A woman at the apartment told police that Porter was not home, but a search found Porter hiding in a closet, Dearing said. He refused to give his correct name and date of birth, but the officers recognized him from previous meetings and a fishing license in his pocket confirmed that he was Porter.
Searching Porter, police found one oxycodone pill and charged him with possession of a scheduled drug, Dearing said.
Police summoned a Hermon man April 22 for leaving the scene of an accident a day after a Bangor couple awoke to find a maroon 1993 four-door Saturn in their garden at 295 Parkview Ave., officials said.
Kenneth J. Cote II, 19, admitted that he had driven his car through the end of the dead-end road onto the couple’s lawn, struck a tree and become stuck in their garden, Bangor police Officer Doug Moore said. Cote told police he had been scared and fled on foot after the 3:30 a.m. accident.
Cote told police that he had been going “pretty fast” because he had not realized that the road ended and had thought that it connected to Stillwater Avenue, Moore said.
The front of the car was heavily damaged, and damage to the property was estimated at $500, Moore said.
Cote will appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on May 24.
