BANGOR – Mike Worcester hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Husson College Braves to an 8-7 victory over the Thomas College Terriers in the opening game of baseball doubleheader at the John Winkin Complex Sunday.
Husson won the second game 9-2.
In the first game, Jared Foster earned his first career win with four hits and one walk in a relief appearance. John McGlinn added two singles and an RBI for the Braves. Aaron Bonenfant singled twice and had an RBI for Thomas of Waterville.
In the second game, Travis Reynolds gave up four hits and a walk while striking out six for the win. Jonas Bard hit four singles, and Josh Ferguson added three singles and an RBI for Husson.

Bowdoin wins two over Bates
At Lewiston, Bowdoin of Brunswick won the opener 3-1 and the second game 12-10 to sweep Bates in a doubleheader on Saturday.
In the first game, Rob Metzier had a home run and two singles to help lead Bowdoin the win.
James Shea and Kevin Bougie each hit two singles for the Polar Bears.
Jason Pinkham hit a double and a single for Bates while John Merriam added a double.
In the second game, Andy Workman hit a home run and a double for Bowdoin while Seth Paradis added a home run and a single. Tom McMahon and Chris Davidson each contributed with a double and a single.
Adam Taranto was top hitter for Bates with three singles and a home run.

At Gorham, Eastern Connecticut defeated the University of Southern Maine 7-2 and 6-4 in a doubleheader on Saturday.
In the first game, Joey Serfass allowed only two runs in the second inning to shut down the USM offense and help the Warriors to the win.
Jared Holowarty hit two RBI singles while Eugne Julien added an RBI single.
Brian Marshall hit a home run for Southern Maine.
In the second game, John Kubachka hit a game-tying RBI single while Dwight Wildman put Eastern Connecticut in the lead with another RBI single.
Marshall, Tyler Delorme and Adam Lemieux each had RBI singles for the Huskies.

Tufts sweeps White Mules
At Medford, Mass., Jon Lee and Randy Newsom fired complete-game wins to lead Tufts University to 6-1 and 9-3 wins over Colby College on Saturday.
In the first game, Lee fired a three-hitter and retired 15 straight Colby batters during one span. Kevin Brunelle singled and doubled for Colby.
In the second game, Evan Zupancic drilled his 10th homer of the year to pace the Jumbos.
Brunelle had a home run for Colby.

UMF, UMPI split
At Presque Isle, the University of Maine-Farmington shut out UM-Presque Isle in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, but the Owls won the second game to earn a split.
UMF won 6-0 while UMPI prevailed 5-1.
In game one, Zach Reed opened up the first with an RBI single. Dave Sharland had an single to knock in a run in the fourth. Justin Quimby had a triple and a single.
Matt Bouchard rapped three singles for Presque Isle.
In game two, Tom Ventura started the offense with an RBI single in the second. Quimby had a pair of singles and a double for UM-Farmington.
Ben Goodwin had a double and knocked in a run in the second. Greg Ingalls has a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. Seth McCrossin had an RBI single.

Maine, Stony Brook split
At Stony Brook, N.Y., Jenna Merchant tossed a two-hitter, striking out five and walking four, to give Maine a doubleheader split against Stony Brook on Saturday.
Stony Brook won the first game 3-0, while Maine won the second 1-0.
In the first game, Stephanie Poetzsch struck out 10 and held the Bears to just two hits. Kristen Brust singled twice for the Seawolves while Amanda Staschuk had an RBI single.
Aleisha Rautenberg and Melissa Mather each singled for the Black Bears.
In the second game, freshman Jess Brady of Jackman scored the game’s lone run when she led off the third inning with a single, took second on Rautenberg’s sacrifice bunt, moved to third on Sara Asadoorian’s’groundout, and trotted home on Erica Sobel’s single.
Merchant improved to 15-10 with her seventh shutout of the season.
Rautenberg doubled twice for the Bears while Brady singled twice.
Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader between the two schools was postponed due to rain and will be played today.

Keene State sweeps Southern Maine
At Keene, N.H., Keene State defeated Southern Maine in both games of a doubleheader 6-3 and 2-0.
In the first game, Jan Rissacher led the Owls with a three-run homer while Jennifer Norman and Caroline Kurkowski each added solo home runs.
Darci Holland hit a two-run double for Southern Maine while Sunshine Anders had an RBI double.
In the second game, Katie Thompson scattered five singles in a shutout to give Keene State the win. Adria Reynolds led the offense with a double and a single.
Renee Heath had two singles for the Huskie.

Husson, Thomas split
At Bangor Sunday, Braves pitcher Jamie Wells and Terrier pitcher Devon Burrell each picked up a win as the teams split a doubleheader. Husson won the opener 7-1 and Thomas took the nightcap 6-5.
In the first game, Wells struck out four in a two-hitter, and singled twice for the Braves. Erin Weston hit two singles and a double. Sara McIntire added two singles and Kerri Tuck doubled. Erin Lovely hit a double and scored the Terriers’ only run.
In the second game, Lovely hit a double and a triple to lead Thomas (12-4). Ashley Morris singled twice, Jasmine Carey contributed a triple and Katie Morrell and Dee Kelly each doubled.
McIntire and Rhonda Chambers each hit a single and a double for Husson (6-10).
UM-Farmington sweeps UMPI
At Farmington, the University of Maine at Farmington edged past the University of Maine at Presque Isle 3-1 in the first game of a doubleheader then went on to take the second game 7-3.
In the first game, Andrea Benvenuti had three singles and an RBI for Farmington to help lead them to the win.
Richelle Dube hit an RBI double for the Beavers while Cynthia Ravinski added two singles and an RBI.
Steph Gagnon had two singles for Presque Isle.
In the second game, Dube had two singles and an RBI for UM-Farmington while Marden chipped in with two singles.
Michaud had a double and a single for the Owls.
