PHILADELPHIA – Ellsworth High School graduate Ben Shorey and Mt. Blue of Farmington senior Adam Staier finished first and second, respectively in the men’s junior division 10,000-meter racewalk at the Penn Relays Saturday.
Shorey, whose time of 43 minutes, 20.6 seconds in the junior race was the second-fastest ever at the meet, also finished first in the open men’s division. By virtue of his time, he has solidified a spot on the USA World Junior Track and Field team.
Another Mainer also did well at the meet as former Narraguagus High athlete Anne Favolise, now a freshman at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, won the junior women’s 5,000-meter racewalk with a personal record time of 24:16.02. Amanda Bergeron of Poland was fifth in the race. Maranacook of Readfield senior Jon Chasse also finished fifth in the junior men’s 10,000 racewalk.
