DOVER, N.H. – A high school teacher has been charged with misdemeanor sexual assault on a 15-year-old female student and has been suspended.

Jon Gordon, 60, of Eliot, Maine, a math teacher at Dover High School, turned himself in to police Tuesday morning, and later was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail.

Police said the incident occurred April 18. A female student said she asked Gordon for a bathroom pass and he asked her how tall her high-heeled shoes were. Police said he took out a ruler and measured her high heels.

“While he was doing so, he was alleged to have been looking up her skirt,” Police Lt. Anthony Colarusso said. Then, as the girl took the pass and walked by, Gordon slapped her on the buttocks with a ruler, police said. “We have witnesses corroborating the information,” Colarusso said.

“The school had talked to people initially and realized the severity of the incident and they reported it to us,” he said.

A police affidavit filed at court said the girl claimed Gordon had done things during the past few weeks that made her uncomfortable, such as making a comment and massaging her shoulders.
