Eagles break game open in fourth to sink Mariners 9-5 Bishop, Allen and Boutin pace GSA

STONINGTON – An eight-run fourth inning paced George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill past Deer Isle-Stonington 9-5 in softball action Friday.

Elise Bishop had two singles and a double with two RBIs. Laurie Allen provided a triple and a single while knocking in two runs. Nicole Boutin also had a triple and a single with one RBI for George Stevens.

Roz Santospago hit a double and a single. Heather Bray had a RBI single for Deer Isle.

At Guilford, Katie Hank kept the Pandas undefeated at 4-0 as she shutout the Pirates in a complete appearance.

Hank struck out six batters in the win with the aid of catcher Shelby Pickering. Pickering led Lee Academy from the plate with a two-RBI double as part of a six-run fourth inning. Pickering had two doubles on the day. Ashley Linscott, Deidre Ham, Kessie Keuster, Ashley Gifford and Katie Harris each had an RBI for the Pandas.

Pirate catcher Tedianne Galuski, Ivy Galuski, Kristin Roy and Amanda Keyte each singled for PCHS.

At Belfast, Alexis Pullen pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out six batters and walking one, as the Black Bears of Readfield topped the Lions and remained undefeated.

Pullen helped her own cause in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Kim Denbow from third base. Denbow finished with two singles. Toby Martin drove in an insurance run with a double in the fourth inning. She also singled. Erica Brennan added a triple and a single for the Black Bears.

Morgan Crandall struck out four batters for Belfast and walked two. Crandall led the Lions from the plate as well, hitting a double and a single. Melissa Gray added a double in the loss.

Penquis 15, Howland 9

At Howland, Penquis breaks up the tie in the sixth with a seven run inning.

Michelle Batchelder made an outstanding run-in catch in left field in the sixth for Howland.

Michelle Mulherin had a double and a single. Megan Russell also connected for a double and a single. Arielle Sickler hit a triple for Penquis.

Kylie McGinn and Nancy Hallett led the Howland offense, both having a pair of singles.

At Sherman Station, Keely Sayers and Brooke McCrum led the Tigers to victory as they combined for five RBI against the Cougars.

Sayers finished with a double and a single for three RBIs, while McCrum hit two doubles and a single with two RBIs. Dani Searles added an RBI triple for the Tigers.

Megan Libby had two singles and an RBI for Katahdin of Sherman Station. Angie Qualey doubled and singled, while Brandi Violette added two singles.

At Washburn, Cindy Chamberlain struck out five batters as the Pioneers of St. Agatha captured their first win of the young season.

Chamberlain also hit two singles and a double and Michelle Bourgoin had a single and a double for Wisdom.

Amber Blakeney had two singles for Washburn behind loser Nicole McLaughlin, who struck out six.

Maranacook 10, Belfast 2

At Belfast, Jared Lemieux struck out nine batters in seven innings of work and also tripled and a singled in the victory for the Black Bears of Readfield.

Steve Mason singled twice and drove in two runs for Maranacook.

Devin Potvin hit two doubles and a single while knocking in a run for Belfast.

At Deer Isle, Jake Lowell got George Stevens Academy going with a two-run home run in the first and also singled twice and knocked in three runs for the Eagles.

Lance Ciomei provided a three-run homer in the second inning for Deer Isle-Stonington.

At Washburn, Jason Thompson threw a one-hitter, striking out 17 and walking just three, as the Beavers prevailed.

Clint Carter had two singles and knocked in two runs for Washburn.

Jeff Paradis singled for Wisdom’s only hit and knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

At Sherman Station, Travis Robinson was perfect from the plate with a triple, a double and two singles while knocking in two runs and scoring four others for the host Cougars.

Chris McNally pitched a two-hitter for Katahdin, striking out six and walking one. Justin Stevens had three RBIs on two singles and a double. Chad Smith had a double and two RBIs and Mark Martin added two RBIs.
