Governor to give address at 200th UM graduation

ORONO – Maine Gov. Angus King will deliver the address at the University of Maine’s 2002 Commencement ceremony, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium. King, who is completing his second term as governor, last addressed a UM graduation in December 1994, just weeks before he took office.

UM President Peter S. Hoff will preside over the ceremony. William D. Johnson will bring greetings from the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, while Gregory D. Jamison will welcome new graduates to membership in the University of Maine Alumni Association.

Some 1,666 people are expected to receive degrees at the ceremony, which will be the 200th in the university’s history.
