Ex-inmate claims rape in $20 million lawsuit

PORTLAND – A woman has filed a $20 million lawsuit against York County alleging she was raped repeatedly while she was in the York County Jail more than 30 years ago.

The lawsuit in U.S. District Court says that Kristin Douglas, formerly known as Tina Beth Martin, was jailed in 1971 on a misdemeanor charge when she was 21 and living in Biddeford. Douglas now lives in Hawaii.

The suit alleges that a jail trusty let himself and other inmates into her cell and they gang-raped her repeatedly over several days while jail officials failed to intervene.

The suit asks for $20 million for physical and emotional illness and distress, lost earning capacity, medical bills, loss of enjoyment of life and other damages.
