YORK – Divers recovered the body of a 34-year-old woman who drove her car off a wharf in York Harbor and into a river, police said Sunday.

The victim was identified as Tracey Taylor of South Berwick. Taylor, who was pronounced dead at York Hospital, was believed to be the only occupant.

Police said several witnesses reported seeing a car drive onto a wharf on Harris Island Road off state Route 103 at 11:23 p.m. Saturday.

Scuba dive teams were called to the scene to aid in the car’s recovery. The incident remained under investigation Sunday.
