White, Damon, Tweedie help Bucksport sweep Caribou

BUCKSPORT – Kelly White fired a no-hitter in the first game of a high school softball doubleheader to help Bucksport to a 23-0 win over Caribou while two Golden Bucks pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a 24-1 win in the second game.

In the first game, White fanned 14 batters and walked only one. Jessica Taylor sparked the offensive attack with a three-run triple. Janna Richards notched three singles, and Elissa Gordon added a double.

In the second game, Brittany Damon and Tara Tweedie each had three singles and combined on a one-hitter for Bucksport.

Taylor once again sparked the offense, rapping a triple and three singles, totaling five hits in the two games. White had three doubles and a single.

Simone Willett singled for the Vikings.

At Woodland, Ashley Linscott’s two-run double in the top of the sixth helped boost the Pandas past the Dragons.

Ashley Gifford and Michaela Ham each singled twice and drove in a run for Lee. Deidra Ham added an RBI single.

Katie Smith led Woodland with a double, a single and two RBIs. Alicia Vose singled twice and drove in a run.

Bangor sweeps Presque Isle

At Bangor, the Rams got solid pitching performances from Jen Jimmo and Shelby Soohey to sweep a doubleheader from the Wildcats, winning 12-0 in the first game and 16-3 in the second.

In the first game, Jimmo hurled a one-hit shutout, walking none and striking out three. She contributed a double and a triple. Ashley Tower and Jen Wright each doubled. Megan Huckins and Courtney Smith rapped two singles each. Sarah Gahagan singled for the Wildcats’ lone hit.

In the second game, Huckins jolted a three-run homer, a double and a triple to tally five RBIs. Smith cracked a double and two singles. Soohey had two doubles, and Jamie Kowalski notched two singles. Marigan Bishop singled and drove in a run for Presque Isle.

Kate Bridges had three singles plus an RBI for George Stevens of Blue Hill.

Central sweeps Schenck

At Corinth, Shauna Smith held Schenck to only four runs in two games to help Red Devils sweep Schenck of East Millinocket 10-1 and 15-3.

In the first game, Renee Trafton led Central with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Shawna Bell had a double and a single with an RBI. Terri Underhill double.

Lindsey Swazey scored Schenck’s only run in the second. Jennifer Davis, Ashley Gleason, and Tiana Stanley all had a single.

In the second game, Jessica Kaelin hit a pair of doubles and had an RBI. Bell had a double and a single with a RBI for Central.

Jessica Day and Jennifer Davis had Schenck’s only hits.

At Brewer, Sandra DeFilipp rapped a single, walked twice, and scored three runs as the Witches knocked off previously unbeaten Old Town.

Carolyn McAvoy had three RBI singles for Brewer.

Meghan King and Emeile Richards had an RBI single each for the Indians. Jill Ouellette and Jessica Paul contributed two singles each.

Patriots, Howlers split

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Penquis of Milo and Penobscot Valley of Howland each grabbed their first win in a doubleheader, with the Patriots taking the first game 4-3 in nine innings, and the Howlers grabbing the second 12-0.

In the first game, Terry Joyce knocked in the winning run on a single for Penquis. Mike Grindle cracked two doubles and drove in three runs and Jordan Allen added two singles.

Keith Champion tied it in the seventh for the Howlers with an RBI double. Joey Cyr notched an RBI single. Trey Miller struck out 14.

In the second game, Penobscot Valley took advantage of seven Penquis errors to roll to the win.

Cyr sparked the Howlers with two singles and an RBI. Miller rapped a double, and Brody Artes ripped an RBI single. Sophomore southpaw Cody Thompson pitched a two-hitter, striking out 15 and walking one, and helped his cause with a double.

Justin Allen doubled for the Patriots and Jordan Allen singled.

At Newport, Hermon scored four runs in the sixth to pull away from Nokomis.

Matt Watson broke up the tie in the fifth inning with a RBI double for the Hawks. Reid Frye had a double and a single with three RBIs. Jesse Murphy had a double and two singles with one RBI. Brad Roy had two singles with an RBI.

Justin Nichols had three singles for Nokomis and Brannen Gee had a pair of hits with three RBIs.

At Newcastle, Shane Eddy slammed two solo homers, including the game-winner in the top of the eighth, as the Mustangs of Thorndike topped the Eagles.

Ryan Harden jolted a two-run homer for Mount View. Chris Carmen rapped a single, a double, and drove in a run and Jordan Tozier had two singles.

Richie Powell sparked Lincoln Academy with a double and three RBIs. Mike Harrington also doubled.

Bucksport sweeps Caribou

At Bucksport, Golden Bucks pitchers allowed five hits and six runs in a doubleheader, taking the first game 5-3 and winning the second 8-3.

In the first game, Andy Wentworth struck out 10 and walked two in the win. Marcus Boober hit a key two-run double in the third and Abram Allard chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

Justin Selfridge led Caribou with two singles and two RBIs.

In the second game, Chris McHale gave up two hits in six innings for Bucksport. Jason Harvey racked up four RBIs on a two-run homer in the fifth and a two-run double in the sixth.

Adam Sheehan rapped two singles and a double and added an RBI. Allard singled twice and knocked in a run.

Bryce McCrossin hit an RBI single for the Vikes.

At East Sullivan, the Eagles rallied for six runs in the seventh behind four straight RBI singles by Chris Sargent, Baren Yurchick, Chris Candage and Jed Garvey.

Sargent finished with two singles, a double and three RBIs for the Eagles of Blue Hill. Jake Lowell and Mark Clapp each added two singles.

Trevor Renwick cranked a grand slam in the first inning for Sumner and Andy Allen added a two-run single. Blake Alley chipped in with two singles.

Brandon Colbeth slammed a two-run homer for MDI. Brian Greenleaf jolted a solo homer, and Bodie Abbott added two singles.
