It seems as if the two most outspoken proponents to the city of Brewer taking the water district under the city umbrella are Michael Celli and Gail Kelly.
Might I suggest their efforts would be better served to try and bring the Brewer sewer district (which is under city control) up to standards mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency and try and reduce the fine levied upon the city.
We, in Brewer, have the finest water in the country. We have had a wonderful, hard-working board. They have replaced hundreds of old lines throughout the city, and believe me, after drinking Florida water full of all kinds of chemicals, I take great pride in Brewer’s accomplishments.
One of the council’s points of cost of $1,652 per hydrant fees compared to Portland and Bangor is absurd. If Brewer had the hundreds more hydrants as Portland and Bangor, the fees would be equal. Please don’t give away one of the finest water districts in Maine to a city government that knows nothing about running it.
