WARREN – A Maine State Prison inmate was found hanging in his cell earlier this week by a fellow prisoner. Adam Dupuis, 25, of Portland hanged himself with a belt and shoelaces, Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday.

He was found Monday, but the department did not announce the incident until Friday. An autopsy found “nothing to alter [the state’s] contention it was a suicide,” he said.

Dupuis, who was serving two years for aggravated trafficking in drugs and possession of a firearm by a felon, was due to be released in November, according to a classifications officer at the prison.

According to McCausland, Dupuis left a note behind indicating that he was upset about his medications. After a fellow inmate discovered Dupuis hanging in his cell, he was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he died, McCausland said.
