MILLINOCKET – Holly Franck’s two-run homer highlighted an eight-run second inning and helped lead the Stearns Minutemen to a 13-9 high school softball victory over the Schenck Wolverines Friday.

Casey Popp had an RBI double in the second and also collected three singles for Stearns. Jessica Jandreau hit a double and two singles, Franck also had a double, and winning pitcher Kristina MacKenzie added a double and single.

Heather Duprey led the Wolverines of East Millinocket with a pair of doubles, Jessica Day had a double and single, and Beth Chasse posted two singles.

At Old Town, Sarah Metivier outdueled Alicia Boisvert and the Indians edged the visiting Trojans.

Metivier had nine strikeouts and no walks in a two-hitter. The winning run came home in the fifth when Meghan King led off with a triple and scored on Emily Richard’s groundout. Renee Thibodeau singled twice for Old Town.

Bracey Barker hit an RBI double and Jessie Norwood had an RBI single for Mount Desert Island.

Presque Isle sweeps Nokomis

At Presque Isle, the Wildcats managed to pull out two tough wins over the Warriors 4-2 and 2-1.

In the first game, Marigan Bishop’s one-out pinch-hit single in the seventh inning drove in the winning run. Ashley Putnam drove in the Wildcats’ first run of the game.

Tina Turner had a double and a single to lead Nokomis of Newport.

In the second game, Melissa Pelletier returned to action for the first time since breaking her knuckles in a preseason accident. Pelletier promptly had the big blow in Presque Isle’s three-run fifth inning when she slammed an RBI double.

Lauren Williams had a double, single, and an RBI, while Putnam singled twice and scored a run for Presque Isle.

Michelle Murray had a double and two singles for the Warriors, Kaycea Grignon had a pair of singles and an RBI, Tina Turner singled twice, and Darcy Hopling had two singles, an RBI, and scored a run.

At Orono, led by Michelle Benoit’s nine strikeouts and Molly Dupere’s four RBIs, the Red Riots picked up their first win of the season in a battle of winless teams.

Dupere finished with three doubles and four RBIs. Dupere’s two-run double in the bottom of the second sparked a five-run inning as Orono took a 5-0 lead. Amie Thomas added three singles and two RBIs and Chelsea Sherman had two singles and two RBIs.

Lauren Snow added a single, a double, and an RBI for the Ponies, while Mandi Murray added two singles and an RBI.

At Belfast, the Lions scored 11 runs in the first two innings and Morgan Crandall struck out nine batters in the win.

Crandall did not walk a batter and allowed one earned run two days after throwing a no hitter against Maine Central Institute. Melissa Gray led the Lions with four singles and two RBIs and Melissa Brown had three singles and three RBIs. Sara Flagg added two doubles and three RBIs and Kate Ross had a two-run triple.

Becky McCrohan had an RBI single to lead Camden Hills.

At Milo, Jean Hamlin scored the game-winning run from third base on a fielder’s choice with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Amanda Martin to lead the Patriots.

Penquis came back from a four-run deficit and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Arielle Sickler and Ashley McMahon each had RBI hits in the inning.

Hamlin finished the game with a double and scored three runs. McMahon led Penquis of Milo with two singles and an RBI and Sickler added an RBI double. Dani Graves struck out nine batters.

Karen Nelson struck out 11 batters for the Tigers. Amanda Pullen had three singles and two RBIs for Dexter. Brittany Veazie added two singles and scored twice.

Presque Isle sweeps double header

At Presque Isle, the Wildcats swept both ends of a doubleheader against Nokomis of Newport 13-12 in eight innings in the first game and 11-6 in the second game.

Aaron Kirstad’s one-out fielder’s choice RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one led Presque Isle over the Warriors.

The Warriors had trailed by six runs heading into the sixth inning, but a solo home run by Josh Bile and a two-run shot by Brendan Gee in the sixth inning, along with Gee’s RBI single that erased a one-run deficit in the seventh, helped Nokomis stay alive.

Kirstad led the Wildcats in game one with three doubles, a single and two RBIs. He added a single and a double in game two. Kyle Gagnon pitched the first six innings of game one and returned to pitch the eighth inning. He struck out seven batters.

Gee finished with four singles, a home run and two RBIs in game one and two doubles in game two for Nokomis. Bile finished with a single and a solo home run in game one and two singles and an RBI in game two.

Fred Bird earned the win for the Wildcats in game two, striking out four batters and allowing one walk. He also hit singles to knock in three runs in game two and had two doubles, a single, and three RBIs in game one.

At Greenville, the Lakers’ Derek Boucher and Forest Hills’ Jason Nadeau each pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters, but Boucher received 10 more runs of support to secure the win.

Tyler Muzzy led Greenville with two singles and Richard Folsom added a triple in the win. Roger Paradise had two singles for the Tiger and Rob Forge added a single in the loss.

Mark Clapp led of the game with a home run for George Stevens Academy.
