Central High School, Corinth

CORINTH – Honor parts for the Class of 2002 have been announced by Principal William Connors. Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Central High School gymnasium.

Crystal Parker, daughter of Donald and Heather Parker of Bradford, has been named Class of 2002 valedictorian. She will attend Maine Maritime Academy and will study marine transportation operations.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, the health club, and has been on the math team for four years, the Envirothon and Ocean Bowl teams, and is a member of Students Against Substance Abuse.

Parker played soccer, basketball and softball all four years. She participated in the Close Up program, is active in Girl Scouts and received the Girl Scouts Gold Award.

Terri Underhill, daughter of Everett and Sheila Underhill of Stetson, has been named salutatorian. She will attend Albany College of Pharmacy in New York and plans to pursue a pharmacy degree.

She is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been on the math team for four years, a peer mediator, business manager of the yearbook and served on the District Community Chemical Health Team for four years.

Underhill earned varsity letters in soccer, field hockey, basketball and softball. She participated in the PVC Athletic Summit and is active in Project Adventure. She was selected for the MPA Principal’s Award and attended Dirigo Girls State. She is active in Girl Scouts.

Penobscot Valley High School, Howland

HOWLAND – Honor parts for the Class of 2002 have been announced by Principal Bryan Artes. Class Night exercises will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, and commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, in the George Sereyko Memorial Gymnasium.

Jennifer Westfall, daughter of Stuart and Rebecca Westfall of Passadumkeag, has been named Class of 2002 valedictorian. She will attend the University of Maine, majoring in nursing.

She participated in the National Honor Society, tennis, cheerleading, was a Jobs for Maine’s Graduates officer, and was Skills USA-VICA president. She has received the following awards: Bausch & Lomb Science Award, Princeton Book Award nominee, highest average in academic earth science – French I, IIA and III, academic English 9, 10, 11, academic biology, academic chemistry, All-American Cheerleader nominee, and has attended the Honors Banquet all four years.

Lisa Beshai, daughter of Cathleen Beshai and the late George Beshai of West Enfield, has been named salutatorian. She will attend the University of Maine, majoring in nursing.

She was a recipient of the Maine Scholars Achievement Award. She participated as Class Historian for four years, National Honor Society, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and attended the Honors Banquet for four years.

Alicia Drost, daughter of Kenton and Lorna Drost of Howland, has been named the first honor essayist. She will attend the University of Southern Maine, majoring in premedical studies.

She has served as student council president, in National Honor Society, Maine State National Honor Society public relations coordinator, Class Council, soccer, cross country, basketball, and track and field. She attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Georgetown University and competed on the USA Cross-Country Team in Australia. She received the following awards: University of Rochester Humanity and Social Sciences and Williams College Book Award.

Lance Pelkey, son of Connie Ireland and David Pelkey of Howland, was named the second honor essayist. He will study creative writing at the University of Maine at Farmington.

He has participated in Dirigo Boys State, Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference, National Honor Society, and is president of the senior class. He received the following awards: Maine Scholars Achievement Award, MPA Principal’s Award and DAR Good Citizen Regional Essay Winner.

Malarie Lloyd, daughter of Randy and Lynn Lloyd of Howland, was named the third honor essayist. She will study accounting at the University of Southern Maine.

She received the following awards: highest average in academic English 9, art history and Algebra I; citizenship award – 2001; and Girl Scout Silver Award, 1999. She also participated in basketball programs.

Meagan Cyr, daughter of Joe and Brenda Cyr of Passadumkeag, will present the class history. She will attend the University of Maine at Farmington majoring in elementary education.

Justin Cloukey, son of Timothy and Patricia Cloukey of West Enfield, and Jessica Young, daughter of Scott and Mary Ann Foster of Howland, will present the class gifts. Cloukey will major in nursing at the University of Maine, and Young will attend the University of Maine majoring in business administration.

Christy Michaud, daughter of Jeffrey and Rhonda Michaud of Enfield, will read the class will. She will attend Beal College in Bangor with a major in accounting.

Sarah Boobar, daughter of Jeff and Laura Boobar of Medford, will present the class prophecy. She will attend Beal College with a major in medical transcription.

Stearns High School, Millinocket

MILLINOCKET – Honor parts for the Class of 2002 have been announced by Principal Paul MacDonald. Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the George Wentworth gym.

Brian Everett Brown, son of Joan and James Brown, has been named co-valedictorian. He has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years, selected as a delegate to Dirigo Boys State, and has been a member of the math team for four years, leading the team in points scored his senior year.

Brown has been active in community activities, serving in Millinocket Youth Sports, a volunteer for Millinocket Little League, Millinocket Little Giant Football, and Millinocket Junior Pro Basketball.

Brown has been employed as a sports correspondent at the Katahdin Times and plans to study journalism at the University of Maine.

Nicole Lee Caruso, daughter of Deborah DuPont and Anthony Caruso, has been named co-valedictorian. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years. As a freshman and sophomore, she served as class president. She attended the Hugh O’Brien HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar, was a nominee for Girls State, participated in theater, and was a member of the prom committee.

Caruso managed the boys varsity team for three years, and served as peer mentor, counselor and tutor. She has been a member of the math team, French club and student council for four years. She was awarded the Williams College Book Award and the Society of Women Engineers’ Certificate of Merit for excellence in science and mathematics, as well as the Principal’s Award for academic excellence and citizenship.

Caruso has studied dance for several years, concentrating in jazz, tap and ballet. She has taught at Studio One and Houlton School of Dance. She plans to attend Bentley College, where she will major in marketing.
